Apprenticeships talk topic during Premier’s visit

Apprenticeships in regional NSW was just one of many topics for discussion between NSW
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Steber International general manager, Alan Steber during the
Premier’s recent visit to Taree.
Member for Myall Lakes, Steve Bromhead hosted the tour, which also included Deputy Premier,
John Barilaro.
Steber International currently have five first year apprentices on the books and Mr Steber discussed
issues such as distance education and government encouragement and incentives for “businesses in
the bush” to employ more apprentices in their own towns.
To-date Steber International have gained over 150 apprentices.
Mr Steber complimented both State leaders on the regional jobs and investment program (RJIP)
which has given the company confidence to upgrade and extend its Taree factory complex.
“The potential of the Whitbread Street industrial upgrade which would assist all factories in the
vicinity was also canvassed”, Mr Steber said.
“The Premier was also delighted to hear about the five Navy vessels on order, the recent export of a
52ftr to the Seychelles and a new 60ftr on the assembly line for Mauritius.
